The Brewery Route

A tour leading to the 12 breweries in the Limfjord land.

“Imagine if the waters of the Limfjord were golden beer – then I would certainly like to be an eel.” This is how an old celebration song goes, and it goes without saying that this wish cannot come true on a Limfjord tour.
If you follow the Brewery Route, you will pass all of the 12 breweries - and most of them will receive visitors. You can read more about that under each brewery. As it is well known, it is not possible to discuss taste, but this should not prevent you from accepting the invitation to taste one or more of the exciting beers of the Limfjord land. Just remember that the drinking of beer and driving cannot be combined!

The Brewery Route starts in Aalborg and ends in Viborg – but of course it is also possible to follow the route in reverse order or to pick one or two breweries on your way.

1. Søgaards Bryghus, Aalborg

The brewery is situated in the cosy square C.W. Obels Plads in the centre of Aalborg, and it is owned by Lisa and Claus Søgaard, who have created a combination of a microbrewery, a restaurant, a pub, and a café. The brewery is open for meetings, parties, receptions, and other arrangements for op to 100 persons. The house is a two-storied building. The brewery is situated in the cellar, and the restaurant on the ground floor. The restaurant is only open for meeting participants, and it is based on courses made of local products and the best ingredients. The café and the pub are likewise situated on the ground floor, and they are open to everybody.

Guided tours are possible for groups with beer tastings and the possibility of a light meal against payment.

2. Nibe Bryghus, Nibe

Nibe Bryghus is a small-denomination joint-stock company, and it was founded in 2007. It is situated in beautiful surroundings in the yachting harbour of Nibe with a splendid view of the Limfjord. The brewery has revived the old tradition of brewing local beer with a distinctive taste, but also with a wide appeal. The purpose of the brewery is naturally to brew local beer, but also to be an asset for the town of Nibe and the surrounding area by attracting tourists. The assortment is broad and consists of a standard assortment, a seasonal assortment, a flagship series, and special brew. Both ale and malted lager are produced.

3. Kalles Bryghus, Overlade

The original name of Kalle is Karl Kristensen, and he has for several years been a home brewer without his own brewery. He would like to expand the production, and in 2008 he started to brew beer under licence in Nibe Bryghus, where the bottles are labelled Kalles Bryghus. As locally brewed beer from Vesthimmerland is in great demand, Karl Kristensen hopes to create his own brewery soon, when the turnover becomes large enough to bear the necessary investment.
