Søbygaard is a beautifully renovated farm the main building of which dates from 1871. It is situated with a view over meadow, bog, wood, lake and river, and it is a place with lots of life and activity. Here you will find a horse hotel, an art gallery, an art school, farm holidays and a publishing firm. The owner of it all is the author, artist and lecturer Christina Kjelsmark, who takes the participants of this Limfjord Tale on a stroll through the beautiful nature in Hellerup Ådal.
On the way, Christina Kjelsmark, who owns the farm and the surrounding areas, will tell about the history of the valley and the restoration of the river. We get a closer look at the works of the beavers and the otters around the lake, we walk past the dens of the badgers and the foxes, and we listen to the birds. We will walk in this fantastic moraine landscape which is normally privately owned and not accessible to the public.
Also drawing and painting
Before the walk through the valley, it is possible to see the art school and the art gallery and maybe watch the working artists. ”Drawing and painting is my great passion, both professionally and in my spare-time. I am very inspired by my travels to for instance Rome, Toscana, Kenya, and not the least the Faroe Islands. In Sønderbygaard I teach artists from the whole North acrylic painting. I arrange art exhibitions and choose artists and craftsmen for the yearly arrangements of the gallery. Besides painting, I also work as an author and illustrator” Christina Kjelsmark says.
Let's not forget the horses
Søbygaard is also very much about horses. A number of lovely ponys and Island ponys are namely stabled here in Sønderbygaard, and there are also both riding grounds and a riding house. Christina Kjelsmark breeds, breaks in, and trains horses, and she also arranges riding holidays and riding courses where the participants either bring their own horse or borrow a horse. There are both courses for adults and children, and on the children’s courses Christina Kjelsmark gets help from her own children Catharina and Carl Christian.
