This Limfjord Tale tells the story of the old Hindsels manor, which lies by the Limfjord in the north-eastern part of Thyholm. The manor dates back to the Middle Ages, but the Tale is about more than the old history of the manor. Indeed, today the manor is a modern farm estate.

When writing the history of the Hindsels manor, one actually has to start as early as the Viking Age – but it is only since 1481 that we know for certain who has owned the manor.
|
|
At that time Hindsels manor was owned by Børglum bishopric, but during the reformation in 1536 the manor was passed on to the Crown, and in the 1600s it was owned by several different noble families.
Owned by the same family since 1827
Among the owners of the manor in the 1700s was the merchant Peter Isager from Ringkøbing, who through his close connections with the Moravian Church helped finance their town of Christiansfeld in Southern Jutland. Since 1827 the manor has been owned by the Overgaard family, and the present owner Askov Overgaard has owned it since 1981.
The main building was constructed around 1760 as a three-wing, one-storied design made of red bricks and with half-hipped gables in the side wings.
Askov Overgaard tells you about the history of the manor and gives you a guided tour of the modern farm estate with pig breeding, cultivation of plants, production of energy, and renting of small apartments for tourists.
