Thisted Brewery - a local brewery
|
|
A very popular Limfjord Tale is the visit to Thisted Brewery, which has brewed beer for more than 100 years and is still on local hands. The brewery has its own style and its own assortment of products, and it is the only brewery in Denmark, which brews organic beer.

|
A/S Thisted Brewery was founded in 1902, but beer has been brewed on Bryggerivej in Thisted since 1899. All of the 1000 shareholders come from the local area, and the annual general meeting is usually an un-equalled crows-puller; in Thy, the general meeting is actually called the “fourth festival” of the area.

“Thy Pilsner”
The most sold type of beer from of the brewery is the “Thy Pilsner”. The pilsner is called the champagne of beers because the yellow colour resembles that of champagne and because the carbon dioxide contents of the pilsner makes it sparkle like champagne when it is poured into a glass.
Organic beer
Naturally, the shareholders of the brewery were the first ones to taste the first organic beer from Thisted Brewery. Organic beer production is quite an apprenticeship test for the master brewer because it is one of the most difficult things to make a success. However, both the “Organic Thy Pilsner” from 1995 and “Thy Organic Hops” from 2000 have become a success and are now sought-after by many others than just the lucky shareholders. The brewery also produces organic Christmas and Easter Beers.
“Porse Guld”
This special type of beer was first produced in 1984. The master brewer has experimented with it for seven years before he was satisfied with the result. The myrica had partly replaced the hops in the beer and was used to add aroma and bitterness.
It is the only beer in Denmark of its kind – and of course it requires a significant supply of myrica. The brewery handled this by sending the employees of the brewery on an annual trip to the woods to collect the amount of myrica that was needed in the next year’s production. However, “Porse Guld“ is actually so popular now that it has become necessary to close the brewery for four days every year so that the employees can collect the myrica! There have, however, been no complaints from the staff about this development…
