The Maritime Limfjord

The fact that you can sail on the Limfjord is obvious. But today we might not think about the fact that exactly these connections by sea used to be both the easiest and fastest means of transportation because a journey on land was both difficult and dangerous with its big forests, gangs of robbers, and terrible roads. Thus, the Limfjord formed a perfect base for the Vikings, and throughout the ages, the Limfjord has been the source of wealth for herring fishermen, merchants, and other good people.

Limfjord Tale no. 25 – The Kloster Bay and the harbour of Nykøbing

The harbour is the heart of Nykøbing. Founded in 1788, it was the first harbour in the western part of the Limfjord. It is a place swarming with life: mussel fishing boats, large coasters from home and abroad, and lots of skiffs and yachts. You may watch the crabs at the mouth of the river and the beautiful buildings from the time when the ferries crossed the Sallingsund.
Tuesdays at 11 am., approx. 1 hour.

Limfjord Tale no. 26 – Dried fish and schnapps

THow was life in a small fishing hamlet? How were the fish prepared? These are some of the questions which will be answered during this Limfjord Tale in Vorupør Museum in Thy. We will also hear about the religious revivals and their significance - and you get to taste dried fish and obtain the recipe of a good local schnapps.
Fridays at 11 am., approx. 1 hour.

Limfjord Tale no. 27 - A taste of the Limfjord Land
The history of Landting Manor dates 800 years back. We will hear about the role of the manor in Danish history and get the opportunity to taste fish and shellfish from the Limfjord as well as duck specialities from the manor's own production of organic ducks.
Sundays at 4 pm., approx. 1 hour.

Limfjord Tale no. 30 - King Frederik VII Canal
This Tale is a guided cruise on the King Frederik VII Canal where you can hear
the exciting story about the creation of the canal. The area around Løgstør has always been a central traffic junction of the Limfjord. The opening of the 4.4 km long canal in 1861 eased the east-west fraffic that had been hampered by sandbanks and the low water of the Løgstør bay. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays at 11 am and 2 pm, approx. 2 hours.
