The Kloster Bay and the harbour of Nykøbing

The harbour is the heart of Nykøbing. It was constructed in 1788, and it was the first harbour to be constructed in the western part of the Limfjord. On this Limfjord Tale, you will experience how the harbour is still filled with life. Here are different types of mussel fishing boats, large coasters from both at home and abroad, and plenty of skiffs and yachts.

The Limfjord Tale about the harbour in Nykøbing will starts from Moreland’s Historical Museum in Dueholm Convent, which was founded by the Order of St. John in 1369. It was built in Klosterbugten where the monks had their quay and shipping harbour for the patients of the hospital of the convent up until the middle of the 1500s.
In the footsteps of the monks

From the convent, you will walk in the footsteps of the monks past one of the most prominent architectural building, namely the administration building of the municipality, which was designed by Friis & Moltke in 1979-1980. On the way, you will pass several interesting sculptures, among other two cast-iron sculptures made by the local artist Erik Heide.

On the quay itself, you can go for a walk on the marina, which is situated in the old ferry berth from back when there was ferry service to Glyngøre in Salling (the beautiful granite stones that make up the wharf are certainly worth noticing!). Here you will find many different types of boats, and if you are very lucky the round-the-world sailor Hans Kokholm’s fine ship “Joy” can be found in the harbour.

Afterwards, you will follow the coaster quay where soy meal and bio fuel is being unloaded. The walk ends in the square in front of the storehouse and the dock where the mussel fishing boats of Nykøbing can be found.
